Bamboozle 2012: 10 Best Moments From Day 1

The highlights from the first day of New Jersey's The Bamboozle Festival, from Skrillex to Mac Miller

10. Kreayshawn Rocks the Mic In Jorts
How many times do you get to see a rapper in jean short cut-offs? Far too infrequently. Well, probably pretty often on the Jersey Shore, actually.

9. Take Jersey Shore's "Boy or Girl?" Quiz
Jersey boardwalk games! Take a guess! The catch: Win or lose, you feel like an a-hole either way.

8. Mike Posner, Bieber, or A.C. Slater?
Even though I heard three separate kids shout out a variation on, “You sound like Justin Bieber!” I have to think that Posner wins merely by virtue of bringing out a folding chair just to sit on it backwards during “Do U Wanna?” much like a certain "Saved By the Bell" character. A1 stuff, Pos.

7. Jersey Punks Cover 'N Sync
Big Case of Big Mouth won the right to rock the fest’s Harley Davidson-sponsored stage and they returned the favor by performing 'N Sync's “It’s Gonna Be Me." That’s ballsy.

6. Two Girls Storm the Stage, Get Tackled
This would have been a lot cooler had any musician actually been on the stage. But since no one was up there, these neon-clad girls just manged to get tackled harder than if they had streaked across the field during the Super Bowl.

5. The Wonder Years Plunge Into the Crowd
Although they competed against the crushingly loud sound of the very nearby Skrillex show, the Philly punks still managed to shred loud enough that the fans could sing-along—particularly when lead singer Dan “Soupy” Campbell hopped off stage and raged alongside his fans on the ground.

4. Contortionist Cabaret Sideshow
For those New Yorkers who wish Asbury Park was more like Coney Island, the Jersey Shore still proudly displays it’s oddball ilk.

3. Skrillex: Tweens and Ravers Unite to MOSH
Aside from the spaceship, the wild dancing and the aural blitz, the best part of Skrillex’s show in New Jersey was definitely the inordinate amount of elementary school kids rocking out to dubstep. Several of these super-stoked 10-year-old kids inexplicably gave me the high-five as their parents led them out of the show well-before it ended. Apparently, bedtime still bests Skrillex.

2. Mac Miller's Tribute to Late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch
The Pittsburgh rapper performed wearing a shirt that read “RIP MCA” on the front and “F**k Cancer” on the back. Yup, we agree.

1. Incubus Rule Asbury Park (Skrillex Probably Agrees)
I didn’t expect to see so many high school-aged kids mouthing the lyrics to songs that came out when they were still learning their primary colors. Seems like Incubus may have a longevity previously unacknowledged by some rock critics. Case in point: Skrillex tweeted this the following morning: "‏Bamboozle in Jersey awesome...Was totally star struck meeting Incubus last night."
