The Worm lives deep underground, digging up the best of what you haven't heard so you can complete your music education. We're also throwing in some stuff you have heard because it rules so hard. And because we can. Boo ya.
Do You
"Portland Oregon has always maintained this motto 'Keep Portland Weird'. I think John and I try to live through that saying in everything we do. Growing up, both of us were huge sci-fi dorks. We still are, but I think John (PTM) is more than I am (I don't have a Star Trek tattoo).
"On the 'Do You' video, we wanted to create some sort of visual sacrifice as well as an homage to all of the 70s sci-fi films that used practical effects. Logans Run, Enemy Mine, and Silent Running were huge influences. Another great reference was Jordorowskis Holy Mountain, the use of symmetry and spiritual awakening in a chaos and an insanity driven path. I also choose to incorporate a western theme, this was influenced on the Oregon Trail game. It seemed to fit well, people died, were nursed and came back to life. I'm not sure if there was a quicksand trap in the game, but the scenes with Zoe were inspired by the cover to the movie Blood Beach.
"We constructed all of the sets out of PVC pipe and neon acrylic. Everything was custom built on the fly based on some scribbles on napkins of a teepee, pentagram, etc. There was about a week and a half of prep time. Actually, we were still constructing everything literally two hours until the actual shoot. The band had created and designed the costumes on their own. John and I had passed around ideas of what they should look like, I told him to just roll with it and they came out great.
"In the end the video is an abstract vision of a failing cult leader, being reborn to further his enlightenment, and correcting the errors in his quest for mass control." - Ryan Rothermel (Director)
