Pro Era Rapper CJ Fly Enlists Ab-Soul, Joey Bada$$ for New Mixtape

While Joey Bada$$ has gotten the lion's share of the attention, he's far from the only talented member of New York's Pro Era crew. On his latest mixtape Thee Way Eye See It, CJ Fly recruits rappers both modern (Ab-Soul, Joey Bada$$) and classic (Buckshot, Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg) for his 18-song album, recalling the best of the mid-'90s, boom-bap era.

"I know the [Pro Era] homies like to be around for the energy," says the rapper. "When I'm recording, they'll all be there taking notes. We all feed off each other so we can progress together."

On the latest episode of The Mixdown, CJ Fly discusses getting beats randomly on Twitter and the fact that no producer is over the age of 22. He also shares the thought process behind mixtape tracks "Loco Motives," "Q A" and "Side." Let's go.
