Watch Gaslamp Killer Make a Beat, Talk Low End Theory History

Los Angeles producer/DJ Gaslamp Killer has already shown off his vinyl collection on Crate Diggers and told us about his recovery process following a near-death accident earlier this year. Last month, the experimental hip hop producer returned to Low End Theory, the weekly party he co-founded in 2006 that has featured performances by Flying Lotus, Thom Yorke, Erykah Badu, James Blake and DJ Shadow, among many others.

"So many people have graced our stage," he says. "It's where those people nurtured their styles and their creative energy. So many great people have realized the movement we're trying to nurture and have jumped on board on us to make it bigger and brighter."

In the video above, GLK discusses the party's history—"It went from 20 dudes in black hoodies bobbing their heads to a real hub for the creative spirit of Los Angeles"—all while making a spontaneous beat. Given how serious his accident was in July—doctors told him he was three hours from death—it's no small feat to see the animated musician on his feet and making music again.
