Metalhead To Head

Marco Mendoza & Billy Sheehan Remember When They "Made It" as Musicians

The bassists offer up more tasty jam sessions than we've ever seen on 'Metalhead To Head,' reveal how they started playing their instruments and tease what's coming next for them
April 23, 2014

If there's one thing that Megadeth's David Ellefson and King's X's dUg Pinnick taught us in the last episode of Metalhead To Head, it's that two bassists can get together and jam as hard as a pair of guitarists or drummers. In this week's episode, Marco Mendoza (of Black Star Riders, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake and more) and Billy Sheehan (of Mr. Big, The Winery Dogs and more) up the ante even higher.

There are more instrument demonstrations than we've ever seen in an episode of Metalhead To Head, and the results are not to be missed. Each jam session is unique, with the bassists feeding off each other's energy. You can sense their mutual respect throughout. Watch Part 1 above and Part 2 below!

Between showing off their skills, Mendoza and Sheehan get into discussions about how they started playing bass, if they ever question their talent and the moments when they realized they "made it" as musicians. Sheehan tells a memorable story about being on the set of The Tonight Show and reveals there's a new Mr. Big album in the works. Meanwhile, Mendoza shares his plans with Black Star Riders and teases an upcoming solo album.
