Watch Chris Martin Come Up With On-The-Spot Ballads About Ordinary Objects

The Coldplay frontman really can make anything emotional ... and we mean anything

Even before his tragic (and tragically public) divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was known to be an emotional guy. His voice continues to make us weep, and weep intensely. iHeartRadio thought to take advantage of that and see if those pipes could make anything and everything worthy of a heartbreaking ballad.

He's presented with an old shoe and sings, "Old shoe, where have you been? One of the nicest I've ever seen. Got a hole in your sole ..." After grabbing a rotten banana, he croons, "Where have you been? People should watch out, or they'll slip on your skin."

The impromptu ballads are mostly sung in the same tune until Martin is handed a Blackberry, which then inspires what he calls "the saddest tale of all:" "The President used you, then people abused you ..."
