Austin Mahone & Fifth Harmony React to Their VMAs Nominations

The rising pop acts are competing against the likes of 5 Seconds of Summer, Sam Smith and Charli XCX. Find out how they view their competition

A win at the MTV VMAs is one of pop music's most coveted prizes. And for Austin Mahone and Fifth Harmony, getting nominated for this year's ceremony has already sent them into a tizzy. When we caught up with the singers to chat about their nods, Austin was grinning ear to ear while the 5H gals let out a collective, victorious moan. Just watch above.

Austin tells us he's super proud that his disco-themed "MMM Yeah" vid got a nod for Best Lyric Video

"We did this '70s type of thing where it wasn't just a regular lyric video," he explains. "I had a bunch of different talented people, we're running around in wigs and heels. I've seen some pretty creative ones, but the way we did it, I thought it was pretty cool how we were actually in it."

Meanwhile, the "BO$$" girl group were nominated for the MTV Artist to Watch award and will perform on the red carpet pre-show.

"It's just a great thing that we were actually nominated, because who gets nominated?!" says Dinah Jane Hansen. Her band mate Camila Cabello adds, "We have all watched [the VMAs] since we were little. The fact that we're performing on the red carpet is something that we can't even grasp ... And to be welcomed to that realm of people who are so talented is an honor."
