T. Mills on His New, Mature Sound: "It's an Evolution"

After impressively dethroning Jennifer Lopez in Top 20 Countdown's weekly Countdown Showdown battle, T. Mills proved that he has the skills and the fan support to really blow up. The 25-year-old California native first turned heads with "F-ck Em (With My Vans On)" back in 2011 and recently revamped his sound with "All I Wanna Do."

Sitting down with Fuse's Matte Babel on Trending 10 T. Mills explained that his current creative direction isn't necessarily a different sound; it's more about growing up. "My pop sensibilities and my natural melodies have always been there. I feel like it's just a more mature approach now," he said.

"It's not necessarily me changing. It's just, you know, I'm expressing myself," the rapper continued. "It's an evolution. Everyone has to do that—not only artists, but as human beings."

He also revealed that collaborating with producer Dr. Luke, who has worked with acts like Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry, caused the pair to write a whopping 30 songs in just four weeks. So it's no surprise that his upcoming album is already 95 percent of the way there.

"All that anxiety of going into the studio with someone so amazing pushed me to be a better artist, a better singer, a better songwriter. I've never been more proud of the music that I'm making."
