Lil Wayne Says 'Carter V' to Be Two-Part LP, Drops New Song "Gotti"
Lil Wayne sent his fans' hearts sinking when he announced his majorly anticipated Tha Carter V album was pushed back. But the MC quickly made up for the heartbreak when he announced the LP would now be a two-part series with the first half coming next month.
"I got too many songs recorded," Weezy explained in his "P.S.A." above. "I worked on it way too much, way too much to give y'all half of it...I refused to do it; I refuse to cheat my fans, I refuse to cheat myself."
Now, the first half of The Carter V will drop December 9 so it isn't too far away.
Following the announcement, Wayne revealed a new single from the first part of The Carter V (or should we call it The Carter V, Part I? That's a lot of Roman numerals...). Click play below for "Gotti" featuring veteran hip hop outfit The Lox.
The minimal rap-rock production puts the rhymes to the forefront with trappy snares and even a little electric guitar on the chorus. Weezy gets nostalgic on the track, going deep about his upbringing before getting back to classic rap braggadocio where he mentions he had a platinum-certified hit in high school. And it's always a treat to hear longtime favorites like Jadakiss and Styles P trading verses over a blazing, modern-day beat.
Sure, we were supposed to already have a new Carter record for our listening pleasure. But if the quality of the upcoming songs is this good, then we're more than content to wait for the rest of the albums.
