Death Cab for Cutie's "Black Sun" Video: Ben Gibbard Directs a Movie
Death Cab for Cutie have a truckload of treats for us soon, packaged in a little item called Kintsugi, the eighth album from the indie gurus. "Black Sun," the debut single, arrived late in January and hasn't left our heavy rotation since.
In the new video—which premiered at Noisey—the introspective, poetic lyrics are offset by a scene on an action movie film set, with frontman Ben Gibbard calling the shots. Gibbard the director doesn't wear any funny hats or have any tantrums—in fact, he seems incredibly similar to the mellow, sweatered artist we've known since 1998's Something About Airplanes.
