Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Drop Genre-Bending "Downtown" Single, Video

Sounding like two songs in one, the duo's latest comes with a splashy, Broadway-ish video

Following their Ed Sheeran-assisted comeback track "Growing Up," MacklemoreRyan Lewis have made their official return with an intense new single and music video.

"Downtown" is essentially two completely different songs mashed into one. The verses feature slinky, funky production where Mack raps about mopeds and his scrotum (seriously) as iconic '80s rappers Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee and Grandmaster Caz make awesomely unexpected features for some hip-hop chants. It's paired paired with an arena-rock section where Eric Nally (a.k.a. the singer from Foxy Shazam) does his best Michael Jackson/Freddie Mercury impressions via dramatic belts on the anthemic chorus.

The five-minute and 22-second video plays out like a musical, Mack and a crew doing fun choreography all over the city. Look out for loads of wild visuals, like Nally riding behind four motorcycles, chariot-style (1:45) while the "Thrift Shop" MC drives a moose-head moped on top (3:05).

It's intense stuff and bringing the song to life will surely make for an insane performance when the rap duo perform at the 2015 VMAs this weekend
