Justin Bieber Explains VMAs Crying Incident, Performs "What Do You Mean?"

"I just wasn't expecting them to support me in the way they did," the Biebs said. "Last time I was at an award show I was booed"

If you saw the 2015 MTV VMAs on Sunday night, you saw Justin Bieber break down in tears as he wrapped the performance of his brand new single "What Do You Mean?" If you didn't see the show, you probably caught the moment anyway.

“It was just so overwhelming for me, everything," Bieber told Jimmy Fallon in a Tonight Show appearance on Wednesday. "I missed some cues so I was a little disappointed at that. ... I just wasn't expecting them to support me in the way they did. Last time I was at an award show I was booed."

Bieber then confirmed what anyone who's been watching him this year knows: He's been trying really hard to turn things around after years of public mishaps and missteps:

“I’ve worked so hard at this album, I’ve worked so hard at at just becoming the man I want to become and then, like, stepping into situations, you just can’t help but feel judged. So I was just feeling judged and wanting to win so badly and do what I love so badly."

The rest of the night was busy for the Biebs, too. He revealed his album's release date, performed "What Do You Mean?"...

...and did his Jack Ü collaboration "Where Are Ü Now" as a country ballad duet...

...and had a drum off with Questlove. Busy night for Bieber.
