Watch Joey Bada$$ Talk Collabs With the Soul Rebels, Glass Animals

The Brooklyn MC promises, "Joey Bada$$ with a band is something that's going to be dominant in the future"

No doubt Joey Bada$$ had an on-point performance with brass brand the Soul Rebels at Day 1 of Voodoo Music + Arts Experience 2015, but the Brooklyn rapper says he's still finding his groove working with a live backing band.

"Working with a live band is something that's new for me," he tells Fuse backstage at the New Orleans festival. "Ever since I was first on the Jimmy Fallon show and I got to perform with The Roots, it was an element that I was like, 'Yo, I need to take this on into the future.' Me, I'm a perfectionist, I like to get everything right. Just the way my schedule's been, it's been so hectic, I haven't gotten the time to really build my ideal band for my set. Me and the Soul Rebels, we got great chemistry, it will be dope to do the festival here, but we're winging it! The people can't really tell that, but for us it's just a vibe."

The Soul Rebels aren't the only band Joey's teamed up with lately. The MC also recorded with English indie rockers Glass Animals for their new single "Lose Control" (below).

"They were in New York one night, we just decided to get into the studio," he explains. "It was actually supposed to start at 11:00am, but I was sick that day, I didn't end up coming til 11:00pm, and we didn't end up finishing til like five in the morning, but it was so worth it. [Glass Animals frontman] Dave [Bayley], he's a creative genius. I love working with people like him, they just get it right away. Joey Bada$$ with a band is something that's going to be dominant in the future."
