Gerard Way Describes Finding His Way to Music: Class of 2006 Video

Long before Hesitant AlienGerard Way fronted My Chemical Romance, a band that would forever change the pop-rock/emo genre. Long before then, Way didn't even know being in a band was going to be his career path. In this vintage Fuse clip as part of our Class of 2006 Week, Gerard discusses his first foray into the music world:

"I think I knew from an early age I wanted to be in a band but I don't think I pursued it right away. I was kicked out of the first band I was in. I played guitar and I'm not afraid to admit, I'm very poor at playing guitar so basically they asked if I would play 'Sweet Home Alabama' and I couldn't play it. I kind of didn't want to play it and I didn't want to learn it and they kicked me out of the band so I kind of have an eternal grudge against 'Sweet Home Alabama,' so after that I said, 'Well, there goes that career plan. I guess let me go to my fallback, which is to be a comic book artist.' Music was actually my first thing I thought I was going to do, but it took about 10 years later for me to realize that's what I was supposed to do."
