Ta'Rhonda Jones on Her 'Empire' Role and Budding Rap Career: Video Interview
Fox's Empire is one of the most buzzed-about drama series of the moment, and the show's own Ta'Rhonda Jones stopped by Fuse to discuss her role as Cookie's assistant, Porsha Taylor. Calling it the "beginning of the ending of Hustle & Flow," the Chicago-bred actress said:
"When you watch shows, the numbers are up then they slow [fall down]. You would think it wouldn't get higher and higher, but that's how you know people are really tuning in. You can relate to the show, it's so everything! You have everything all in one: fashion, music, drama, me!"
Along with acting on Empire, Jones is also an "above basic" rapper! She told us:
"I'm not one of those girls who listens to rap today, only because I think it's not the same. I think rappers are just getting away with saying anything, and it's selling, it's trending. And it's kind of sickening, because I feel like they're making a mockery out of hip-hop. My music is coming from the heart, it's hip-hop."
