#TBT: Slipknot Reveals the True Message Behind 'The Subliminal Verses'

The heavy metal band explains the theory of blatant vs. subdued information

One of Slipknot's most successful albums, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) earned the heavy metal band a GRAMMY Award for Best Metal Performance for "Before I Forget." Speaking to Fuse back in 2004, the group explained the concept behind their third studio LP.

"Basically, the concept behind Subliminal Verses is that there's two levels of information. There's the blatant, and then there's the subdued. The blatant always comes off the way it is—it's in your face, it's right there," they said.

"But with the subdued, which is kind of underneath, that's where the subliminal part comes in. Because there's always two sides to every story. There's what's going on, and what's not going on."
