#TBT 2010: Miley Cyrus Praises Role Model and Rock Icon Joan Jett

"She's been doing it since she was 17. Her fans are now her age, and I think that's amazing," the "Party in the U.S.A." singer told Fuse

Fresh off the success of "Party in the U.S.A.," Miley Cyrus was well on her way to becoming a major pop star. In a throwback 2010 interview with Fuse, the singer expressed just how much Joan Jett influenced her growing up.

"[Jett] was no older than me when she wrote 'Bad Reputation,'" Cyrus said. "She's been doing it since she was 17. Her fans are now her age, and I think that's amazing...I take her as a role model influence."

But despite looking up to the rock icon, Cyrus had a clear vision for her own career path.

"I never look at anyone's career and go, 'That's the career I want.' I want my career. I love where I am, and I think that's what makes people special—their different journeys."
