The Prince Effect: The Purple One Described in Just One Word

"Magician," "revolutionary," "genius"—here's how musicians, historians and producers remember the G.O.A.T. one year after his death

In honor of the one-year anniversary of Prince's untimely death, Fuse is celebrating the Purple One with The Prince Effect, where experts remember the Minneapolis native's long-lasting legacy and impact.

Tasked with describing Prince in just one word, oral historian Zaheer Ali immediately gravitated toward "genius," explaining that when you "look at all the aspects of art and all the ways he approached his art, there really is no other word."

Musician/composer Asante Amin praised Prince for creating his own reality, deeming the icon a true "magician."

"[Prince] was definitely magic because he was able to embody so much so seamlessly...Things that are supposed to be contradictory, he was able to embody them and actually show people how they were connected," says Amin.
