It's been a week since we heard about the death of Soul Train founder and host Don Cornelius. Now, the Los Angeles coroner's office confirmed what many suspected: that the mogul's death was by self-inflicted gunshot wound. A final report has yet to be issued pending the results of toxicology tests.

Cornelius' son Tony spoke to Hollywood Reporter to discuss the issues—a messy divorce, failing health—that may have contributed to his father's suicide. Yet the younger Cornelius said nothing suggested his father would take those steps. "It's just one of those things," said Cornelius' son. "You just never know what someone is thinking. I can tell you due to health, things like divorce and relationships, there's all kinds of things that may trigger a reaction like that. But as his son, as one who was really close, I can't tell you [why]."
