Noel Gallagher Gets Psychedelic on New B-Side
For the record, Noel Gallagher is really beating his brother at the whole post-Oasis music game, and now we have yet another little reminder of just that: Listen to “Shoot a Hole Into the Sun,” a deeply psychedelic new B-side from the elder (and wiser) Gallagher.
‘Wait… Noel’s going psychedelic?’ you say? Yep. Since last year, when he dropped his respectable debut solo album, the Britpop icon has been running his mouth (imagine that) about a second effort, which he called a psychedelic collaboration with Amorphous Androgynous, aka the same blokes in the experimental ambient-house outfit the Future Sound Of London. “Shoot a Hole Into the Sun” is the first taste of that collabo.
The spacey, eight-minute-long track will arrive on March 11 as the B-side to “Dream On” from High Flying Birds. And it gets even more, well, trippy. “Shoot a Hole Into the Sun” is essentially a reworking of the High Flying Birds single “If I Had a Gun”—recognize those lyrics, hmmm?
Both tracks are fantastic. So, below, listen to “Shoot a Hole Into the Sun” and “If I Had a Gun,” then be thankful that Oasis broke up because both tracks are better than anything they’ve done in years.
