"L.A. is the only place that I feel 100 percent myself or 100 percent happy," Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino told Fuse last week. Well, now we can hear her love for L.A. in song with "The Only Place," the LP's title track which just landed online. Listen below and then download the song right here, in exchange for an email address.
Produced by Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Kanye West), the track immediately shimmers with a higher production quality than their debut, Crazy for You. It's Cosentino's tribute to her hometown, a place she missed so dearly over two years of non-stop touring.
"It’s where I feel the most creative and inspired," she told Fuse. "So this record is very much about being away from your home and being homesick and out on the road. It’s about going through these ups and downs, and then when I’d get home I’d write these songs. I’d get three days off to lay around and do my work from home. And it’s the only place that I think of as, like, my safe place, as my happy place."
On "The Only Place" she mirrors those words, sometimes verbatim, over clean surf guitar lines: "We were born with sun in our teeth and our hair / When we get bored we sit around stare at the mountains, the birds, the ocean and the trees / We have fun / We have fun / This is the only place for me / Why would you live anywhere else?"
