Sharon Van Etten and Shearwater: "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"
Indie folk babe Sharon Van Etten joined Austin’s Shearwater (Shearin’ Van Etten?) in the teeny-tiny offices of Chicago’s Onion A.V. Club to perform a cover of Stevie Nicks’ 1981 duet with Tom Petty. It’s great hearing the usually reserved Van Etten stretch her vocal chords on some rock n' roll. [Pitchfork]
Cody Simpson ft. T-Pain: "So Listen"
Australian YouTube heartthrob (and Justin Bieber’s new pal) makes a move to bust out of the teen pop box before he breaks big in America. Throw in T-Pain and a touch of dubstep, and we have a strange (but not unconvincing) Bieber/Skrillex marriage.
Yelawolf: “Can It Be (Freestyle)”
Ruptured spleen nothing! The MC might be cooling his heels after a recent hospitalization, but a February freestyle he did over Wu-Tang’s classic “Can It Be All So Simple” was just released online. Here's the can’t miss lyric: “Reaching for credit but I’m really reaching for cleavage / from the b--ch of the rap game I want milk / I won’t believe it if you say I don’t deserve it.”
Cam’ron: “F--k You”
Don’t say Cee Lo did it first, because the Harlem rapper actually has an unreleased song with the same naughty name from a few years ago. This might not return Cam’ron to the top of the pops, but it shows he hasn’t lost his touch on the mic.
Machine Gun Kelly ft. 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Mystikal, French Montana: “Wild Boy (Remix)”
MGK’s remix of his song with Waka Flocka features a strong, eclectic line-up of guest rappers. 2 Chainz might take the spotlight, but damn, it’s good to hear Mystikal back. [HHNM]
Lotus Plaza: "Strangers"
Deerhunter’s guitarist probably gets bored when his lead singer is performing “My Sharona” for an hour onstage, so it makes sense he has his own solo project, too. It's gentle, summery indie music for a lazy hangover. [Stereogum]
