Rapper Danny Brown On Stand-Up Comedy and Hip Hop

After one of his sets at SXSW, Fuse’s Esteban Serrano spoke to Detroit MC Danny Brown—one of XXL’s Top Ten Freshman of 2012—about his style on the mic, which he says is inspired by live comedy.

"I’m a huge fan of stand-up comedy, like Eddie Murphy Raw, Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K., [who is] my favorite one right now. I look at the way they write their stand-up material, I probably write my raps the exact same way,” Brown says. “The things that make me laugh are the things that I’m saying.”

Esteban also asked him what was up with the guy who threw a lemon at him during the set he'd just finished performing, (you can watch the video above for footage of that). Seemingly unfazed, Brown took it all in stride

“I’m gonna make some drinks outta that tonight,” he responded without missing a beat. “That was the first time somebody threw something at me on stage, but that’s cool, I don’t trip on that. I’ve done sh-t like that before.”

That’s probably the best response to onstage heckling I’ve ever heard. What do you think? What would do you if someone threw a piece of fruit at you? Tell us below after watching the video above.
