Paul McCartney Directs Natalie Portman, Johnny Depp In New Video
Paul McCartney got behind the camera to film actor-friends Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp for his subdued, black and white "My Valentine" music video. Portman lip syncs and signs the lyrics to McCartney's melancholy ballad while Depp signs and strums (strum syncs?) along to the song's Spanish guitar lines. It's a lovely little clip that reads well as a filmed portrait of Portman and Depp.
This isn't the first time Macca has filmed his own music. He was the driving directional force behind the Beatles bizarre Magical Mystery Tour film, he helmed a hard-to-find Wings concert documentary from the '70s and he has three scattered credits since then.
Nor is this Sir Paul's first time working with Queen Amidala. McCartney employed a pre-Oscar Portman to play her most literal incarnation of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl in his music video for 2007's "Dance Tonight." Only that time, Michel Gondry was the man with the movie camera.
