Arcade Fire Signed to Their Label Because of the Food
Have you ever been really, really, really hungry and you thought you'd do anything for some food? If you have, you'll know what it's like to be in Arcade Fire who, according to Spin, signed to Merge records for some food! Sort of.
Mac McCaughan, the head of Merge Records, said on a Spin podcast, "Arcade Fire's Richie [Reed Perry] actually credits Lantern," a North Carolina restaurant," with them signing to Merge, because when they first drove down — before we'd signed them, but they wanted to come down and meet everyone and see the label — we ate at Lantern."
In the same interview, McCaughan joked about all the indie rock stars he gets to hang out with: "I mean, most weekends that's what it's like. Win and Régine come down from Montreal... Jeff [Mangum] comes down from New York... Let's see, who else comes over?...[Spoon's] Britt [Daniel] just moved to LA, Zooey [Deschanel], if she's in Chapel Hill..."
Sounds like a pretty sweet (no pun intended) life! Let us know if you'd sign to a record label for some delicious food in the comments.
