R. Kelly Hospitalized, Forced to Cancel Memoir Promo

While headed to New York City to promote his new memoir, Soulacoaster: The Diary Of MeR. Kelly suddenly became ill Wednesday and was rushed to a hospital in his hometown of Chicago, reports Rolling Stone.

"Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords," explained a statement released by a rep for the King of R&B. Last July, Kelly underwent emergency throat surgery. Doctors drained the pus from an abscess on his tonsil (ewwwww), but apparently his throat troubles aren't quite over. The statement added, "It is unclear how long Kelly may be sidelined."

The sudden hospitalization forced him to cancel today's appearance on the Today show, as well as the official launch party for his book and scheduled signings of Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me.

While Kelly is recuperating, take a look at some of the highlights from his book over here—we've excerpted the five funniest quotes from his witty tome. And get well, Kellz!
