Why Was E-40 Banned From Hometown Rock the Bells Fest?

Transcribing Bay Area rapper E-40 is an exercise in futility. Words can't fully express the veteran rapper's unique drawl and hysterical, genial demeanor shown in the video above, but we'll do our best.

We sat down with the rapper after his set at Rock the Bells 2012 to talk about his explosive anthem "Function" and his rapping/producing sons, only to find out the rapper was banned from Rock the Bells' upcoming show at Mountain View, CA.

"I'm not even going to be there," says E-40. "For some reason, the city of Mountain View won't let E-40 and Too $hort perform. They can't even give us an excuse or nothing. They can't say nothing. They don't even know why they won't let us perform. They don't want us performing on our our soil, man."

The rapper also discussed getting his sons, Droop-E and Issue, into hip-hop, the former performing with his dad before getting into production via a studio bought by pops for Christmas. "Neither one of them sound like me," says the rapper. "They got their own thang. And that's what I love about it. They not trying to be like pop. They want to have the gouda like big pops!"
