"Jeezy and Rick Ross just had words backstage!! Pushing and shoving!!!" DJ Funk Master Flex tweeted last night at the taping of the BET 2012 Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta. It was followed quickly by: "Beef just spread to the parking lot!!!"
Atlanta police have confirmed that they arrived at the awards at 7:30 pm to break up a scuffle between two groups, but refused to divulge the identities of those involved.
MTV News reports that fights broke out between Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group and both Young Jeezy and 50 Cent's G-Unit camp. They also reported shots fired and at least one man arrested. (Perhaps based on Flex's tweet: "Shots fired in parking lot!!! Gunman arrested!!! Back to the show and Club later!!!") But police have denied there were any arrests, injuries or shots fired.
BET Networks issued a statement in response to the incident.
"BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."
The 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards will air Tuesday, October 9.
