R.I.P. "Godfather of World Music" Ravi Shankar
It's hard to overstate the musical significance of Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar, who died last night at the age of 92. Perhaps best known now as Norah Jones' estranged father, the musician's 60-year career influenced everyone from John Coltrane to the Rolling Stones to, most famously, the Beatles (Exhibit A: the Fab Four's classic "Norwegian Wood.")
Take a listen to some of Shankar's most popular songs below and find out why so many Western musicians looked to him for inspiration and collaboration. The more you know.
