This is such an incredible idea, it's hard to believe no one has done it until now—Cirque du Soleil is teaming up with some of today's best EDM artists to marry dizzying lights/crazy contortionists to pounding dancefloor jams. This is going to be like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory for partying adults.
Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia's Sebastian Ingrosso and Lady Gaga opener Zedd are all working with the progressive circus company to craft an immersive club experience for their upcoming residencies at LIGHT, a new Las Vegas club which opens April 26.
"The configuration is so customizable, it's f--king crazy," Skrillex told Rolling Stone. "It's not about having acrobats for my set. The objective is to have something based around your music and something you want to dance to, not something you want to stare at the whole time." Cool, cool... but please, Skrilly, do include acrobats in your set.
As for Zedd, he wants to use Cirque du Soleil to bring the human element back to light show-centric EDM shows. "What I liked about Gaga's show was that there's a lot of humanity, there are a lot of dancers and it's almost like a theater play with music. I could see parts of that [coming back with this] concept."
Since the specifics are still being hammered out, we'll just have to wait until LIGHT opens this spring to see how insanely dazzling a Cirque du Soleil-curated Skrillex concert is. But rest assured, it will probably involve more human movement than Britney Spears' upcoming Vegas residency.
