Ghostface Producer Adrian Younge Shows Off "Cream-of-the-Crop" Record Collection
For the latest episode of Crate Diggers, we head to Los Angeles record store The Artform Studio to profile DJ/producer/composer/store owner Adrian Younge's massive record collection.
“I don’t like to collect trash," says Younge, composer and editor for the 2009 blaxploitation homage Black Dynamite. "I’m not that dude that has a whole bunch of records that I’m never going to listen to. We just try our best to keep the cream-of-the-crop type stuff.”
Younge, who has released two albums under his Venice Dawn group and has produced and composed for the upcoming Ghostface Killah album Twelve Reasons to Die, has one unique method of choosing whether to buy an album or not.
"If I’m looking for obscure breaks, always look for a black dude and a white dude [on the cover]," says Younge. "If I see just a whole bunch of black people, it’s probably going to be cool. If I see a bunch of white people, I have to look to see how they’re dressed. If you see a black dude, an Asian dude and a white dude, you have to get the record because there’s a reason why they came together."
Check out the episode above, with some of Younge's featured records below.
