Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard Releases Cover Songs on Jack White's Label
The Grammys may have never "been a big deal" to Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard, but we'll assume that releasing a track on Jack White's Third Man Records was much more exciting.
The blues growler recently covered the 1944 song "When My Man Comes Home" with vocalist Ruby Amanfu (best known for appearing on Jack White's "Love Interruption") for White and you can hear the results above. As you'd expect when traditionalist meets traditionalist, the track is a slow, rootsy blues number that could've been released in the 1940s.
As Rolling Stone notes, Howard and Amanfu covered "I Wonder" by Rodriguez—the cult singer who was the subject of this year's Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man—for the b-side.
The single is available on March 12, with pre-orders available now on Third Man Records' website.
