Chris Brown on Rihanna Assault: "I Was Arrogant and Definitely Hotheaded"
Chris Brown has spoken about his 2009 assault on girlfriend Rihanna in a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, calling himself "arrogant and definitely hotheaded" during the time.
“It’s all about my responsibility and me growing up as a man," the singer told Seacrest (via THR). "I think now that I’m becoming older, and trying to mature in this life under the public eye at all times, I have to focus on doing the right thing and being more of a humble individual.”
Brown said that he's spent the time since the assault apologizing for the incident. “I just tried my best to be the best man I could be over the years and just show her how remorseful and sorry I was for the incident,” he said. “That time was probably the worst part of my life and being that she’s a wonderful person, I’m eternally grateful.”
Trying to steer his career back to music, the singer also gave Billboard a preview of his upcoming album X, set for a late August/early September release and featuring production from past collaborators Timbaland, Diplo and Danja.
Brown is looking to greats of the past for inspiration on the set's first single, "Fine China." He explained, "I wanted to touch musically on Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke, and incorporate those influences with the new." The track is described as "an uptempo song defining the qualities of a woman."
Details about the album's title track, "Lady in a Glass Dress," "Add Me In" and potential second single, the Kendrick Lamar collaboration "Autumn Leaves," were also revealed.
