A Playlist in Defense of Prog Rock

Conventional wisdom says that prog rock, the subgenre of rock favoring long, instrumental passages and overwrought, bombastic themes and "concept albums" was murdered by the punks, never to rear its long, bloated face again. In actuality, the genre produced some of the best music of the 1970s; complex, layered tracks that, while sometimes over-the-top, showed a musical vision that could only be technically realized by a few artists.
