Rhye's Stunning Soul-Pop Remixed By It-Boy Producer Ryan Hemsworth
L.A. soul-pop duo Rhye dropped their debut album Woman this week and if you haven't listened to it yet, you should do yourself (and the future children this music will eventually bring into the world) a favor and get it. Rarely is R&B so restrained yet funky, romantic without being phony and libidinous without being icky. Equally impressive, the duo regularly work strings into the mix, but there isn't a moment where it feels overproduced: All reasons they easily made our 30 Must-See Acts at SXSW list.
That's why we were psyched when Ryan Hemsworth—2013's most-buzzed-about remixer—got his hands on Rhye's breakthrough single "Open." Adding shades of dance via a few well-placed synths and a more syncopated beat to Rhye's Sade stylings, Hemsworth demonstrates the interesting possibilities of what could happen if the duo goes a few years more modern with their sound. Listen to it above.
