Watch: Katharine McPhee Covers Death Cab for Cutie on NBC Drama 'Smash'
In her starring role as Karen Cartwright in Smash, NBC's new drama about actors in a Broadway musical, Katharine McPhee has sang Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," Florence + the Machine's "Shake It Out" and Rihanna's "Cheers (Drink to That)."
But on last night's episode she took the indie route, covering Death Cab for Cutie's "Some Boys," from the Seattle-bred band's Grammy-nominated 2011 release Codes and Keys. McPhee replaces the heavy pianos and perma-heartbroken frontman Ben Gibbard's reverbed vocals with her tender coo and a single acoustic guitar.
Check out the former American Idol contestant's take on Death Cab's "Some Boys" above. With results this good perhaps McPhee should consider the acoustic route for her third LP, eh?
