Twitter Gets Into Music Discovery Biz
You can already stalk your favorite celebrities and show everyone photos of what you're eating on Twitter. Now you're about to be able to discover new music on the social media site. (Side note: Once Twitter starts going to work for you, you will literally never have to do anything again.)
Twitter acquired the music discovery service We Are Hunted last year, and CNET has learned that it's preparing to launch its own service, Twitter Music, as soon as this month. Here's how it'll work.
The app with have four main tabs. Suggested will recommend songs from artists you follow on Twitter and artists other people you follow are following. #NowPlaying will show tweets by people you follow who use that hashtag. The other two tabs, Popular and Emerging, are basically that—popular songs and emerging artists.
Will Twitter Music be able to thrive in a music discovery landscape currently dominated by Spotify, Pandora, SoundCloud and the like?
What do you guys think? You willing to give Twitter music a try? Let us know in the comments.
