American Idol Sees Worst Finale Ratings Ever
If only Psy's "Gentlemen" could do for American Idol what it did for YouTube!
Despite a star studded night that included elaborate performances by Psy, Jesse J, Idol-alum Adam Lambert, JLo and (the queen of soul herself!) Aretha Franklin, American Idol endured the lowest finale ratings of its 13-year run.
According to Yahoo News, the original voice show's finale drew 14.3 million viewers. That is a 33 percent drop from last year's finale number (the previous low), which attracted 21.5 million viewers. Last year's winner was Phillip Phillip's who became a household name with smash single "Home."
American Idol has been struggling with tanking ratings over the last several seasons and execs have rushed to make changes in hopes of turning the show around -- including a rotating cast of superstar judges.
It certainly seems perplexing that the year Mariah Carey (of all people!) sat on the judges throne would be the show's worst. And now even veteran Randy Jackson is getting the boot!
Well, it would be hard to argue that Season 12 winner Candice Glover is lacking in the vocal department but it seems like even the success of contestants can't save this sinking ship.
Best of luck to Glover...and her show.
