Lauryn Hill Sentenced to 3 Months in Prison for Tax Evasion
Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison and an additional three months of home confinement for failure to pay taxes on nearly $1 million in earnings, the AP reports.
Relatively speaking, the singer/rapper got off easy at the Newark, New Jersey court hearing, as she faced three years in prison for the charges. It's unclear when or where she will report to prison.
Last month, Hill took to her Tumblr to confirm she was recording new music to help pay off the debt.
"It has been reported that I signed a new record deal, and that I did this to pay taxes," Hill wrote at the time. "Yes, I have recently entered into an agreement with Sony Worldwide Entertainment, to launch a new label, on which my new music will be released. And yes, I am working on new music."
Just yesterday she was "forced" to release new song "Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)."
