'Metallica: Through the Never' Gets DVD/Blu-ray Release Date
UPDATE: Metallica: Through the Never will be out on DVD and Blu-ray on January 28, 2014. Both will feature bonus material (duh) including an 80-minute "making of" documentary. If you missed it in theaters, here's 5 Things to Know About Metallica: Through the Never before you watch it.
IMAX might want to consider selling earplugs this fall, because Metallica's new 3D movie will take over their enormous screens and booming soundsystem on September 27.
The metal vets originally slated their upcoming movie Metallica: Through the Never to hit theaters on August 9, but the film was recently pushed back to a September release. It's possible the delay was in order to nab that one-week exclusive IMAX run, which hadn't been previously announced. Either way, the film will get a wide release on October 4.
If you're unfamiliar with it, Through the Never seems like a fascinating project. Not only is it a 3D concert film (yes, this means Metallica are following in the footsteps of Bieber), but there is a narrative that weaves in and out of the film. That storyline deals with a fictional member of Metallica's crew who goes on some sort of quest that—by the look of EW's exclusive first-look photo—may resemble John Carpenter's Escape From New York.
Either way, let's hope it's a more successful merging of fiction and footage than Led Zeppelin's half-incredible, half-absurd concert film/medieval fantasy The Song Remains the Same.
