Listen: The Lumineers Drop Heart-Swelling Folk Ballad "Darlene"
The Lumineers are capitalizing on their self-titled debut album—that spawned ubiquitous breakout single "Ho Hey" and scored two Grammy noms—with a deluxe re-release featuring five bonus tracks. The first new music arrives today with "Darlene." Listen above.
The Denver quintet's latest is typical Lumineers fare—a heart-swelling folk ballad with piano, acoustic guitar and sparse drum rolls. Lead singer Wesley Schultz pleads to his new fiance, "I give you my ring / In your shaking hands / You give me a sting / With your crazy plans. Oh Darlene!" In the song's closing moments, his raspy vocals are set to maximum reverb, like he's belting off an Appalachian mountain top.
The Lumineers deluxe edition also features a cover of the Talking Heads' 1983 single "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)," plus interviews, music videos, a 28-page photo booklet and 25-minute DVD of behind-the-scenes footage. Can I get a "Hey, ho!"
