Stone Temple Pilots Change Their Name…Sort Of
While the bitter two-way legal battle between Stone Temple Pilots and ousted singer Scott Weiland rages on, the '90s rockers have unveiled a new, not-so-entirely-different name for the group's current incarnation: Stone Temple Pilots With Chester Bennington.
As you might expect, this name indicates that the non-Weiland members of STP and Linkin Park's Bennington are in a band together. They've presumably made this change to avoid any legal high ground Weiland could gain if they release their upcoming five-song EP High Rise as Stone Temple Pilots. Or perhaps they thought "Stone Temple Pilots With Chester Bennington" just rolls off the tongue.
In the meantime, expect a dismissive assessment of STPWCB from Weiland, who has previously called his erstwhile bandmates mere "instrumentalists" in the band he "started, named, sang lead on every song, wrote the lyrics and was the face of for 20 years." Ouch.
