Blood Orange Duets With Chairlift Singer on Gorgeous "Chamakay"
The astoundingly talented Dev Hynes—who worked closely with Solange on her True EP—has returned to his Blood Orange moniker to deliver a gorgeous new track complete with a touching video.
"Chamakay" features Hynes blending his breathy delivery with the impeccable voice of Chairlift's Caroline Polachek to create an immediately arresting ballad that finds a sweet spot between inventive R&B and '80s soft rock.
As for the video to "Chamakay," it finds Hynes visiting Georgetown, Guyana, for the first time. "[It's] the town where my mother is from," Hynes said. "She has not been back for 30 years, 3 years before I was born. I tracked down family members, including my 92-year-old grandfather, who I had never met before. In this video you will see our first ever meeting."
Almost as incredible as this first-time meeting between grandfather and indie-fave grandson are Hynes' inimitable dance moves. Watch it above and prepare for Blood Orange's forthcoming second album, Cupid Deluxe.
