Don't Forget: Miley Cyrus Can Sing

Miley Cyrus is known more for the flexibility of her tongue than the quality of her voice. But that wasn't always the case.

Behind all the twerking (pun intended), her radical anti-Hannah Montana makeover and dedication to activism, there's a very accomplished singer hiding. After all, the girl's been singing since she was just nine-years-old, and little known fact: Cyrus is a Guinness World Record holder for "Most Charted Teenager" following her 29th Billboard Hot 100 entry, "Party in the U.S.A."

Check out six more serious singing moments from Miley Cyrus including this moving cover of Dolly Parton's classic, "Jolene."

"You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go," 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' 2012

In honor of 2012's Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International charity compilation album, Miley covered Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks song, "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go." Not only is the recorded version impressive, but this live performance from Jimmy Kimmel Live with singer-songwriter Johnzo West really blows us away.

"The Climb," AOL Sessions, 2009

It'd be a lie to say we haven't had a good cry (or two... or three) to Miley's "The Climb" during a late night car ride. This live version from 2009 still chokes us up. (To the left, haters.)

"When I Look At You," MSN Live Chat, 2010

By this point, we all know Miley's en expert in getting nearly naked and sticking her tongue out. But did you also know the girl really knows her way around a power ballad? Miley nailed her performance of "When I Look At You" from The Last Song during her MSN Live Chat in 2010.

"Wrecking Ball," 'Saturday Night Live,' 2013

Post-haircut, post-breakup, post-foam finger assault, Miley took the Saturday Night Live stage in 2013 as both host and musical guest, and she pleasantly surprised even the harshest of critics. One of our favorite parts, though, had to be her stripped-down version of "Wrecking Ball." If the oversized Poison jersey/no pants thing is distracting you, just close your eyes and listen.

"Look What They've Done to My Song Ma," Backyard Sessions 2015

For one day of her 2015 Backyard Sessions, Cyrus invited legendary singer-songwriter Melanie Safka to redo on a few of Safka's classic with an absurd level of panache. Watch them duet on ”Look What They've Done To My Song Ma" above.
