Ryan Hemsworth's "Small + Lost" Mines Understated Electronic Beauty
After months of buzz on the blogosphere, Ryan Hemsworth has finally dropped his debut album, Guilt Trips. And for fans of Oneohtrix Point Never's first record or Toro y Moi, the Canadian DJ/producer has given you a new album to binge on.
"Small + Lost" opens the album in a minimal but memorable fashion. A looped piano chord murmurs over and over, building a rhythm that eventually veers into chillwave-meets-hip hop territory. When the proper melody—sung by British singer-songwriter Sinead Harnett—takes over, Hemsworth melds minimalism with synth-pop in a beautiful way.
Listen to it above and check out Hemsworth's excellent remix of Rhye's "Open" as well.
