Pixies bassist, Kim Shattuck, who took over for founding member, Kim Deal, just this past summer got the axe from the band yesterday.

Shattuck, who fronts the Southern California punk band, The Muffs, took to Twitter and Facebook to break the news:

Pixies have yet to release a statement and a reason for the split is not currently known. But, judging from Shattuck's levelheaded statement and kind words towards the band that just kicked her out, it was nothing like Deal's departure.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in October, Black Francis talked Kim Deal's exit:

"We were at a little coffee shop near the studio. Kim walked in at some point and said, 'I'm flying home tomorrow.' She quit the band.

"It was an awkward moment. We didn't hug or shake hands or anything. [Guitarist] Joey [Santiago] and I just stood up and said, 'OK.' Then we had to get out of there, so we immediately went to a bar. I had to move from coffee to alcohol."

Pixies have been recording new material—their first in 9 years—and were about to embark on a pretty huge North American tour in early 2014 with Cali dreampop group, Best Coast, opening.

If the tour continues as scheduled, may we humbly suggest Pixies avoid bassists named Kim to fill their current opening.
