Macaulay Culkin Delivers With Pizza-Obsessed Velvet Underground Cover Band
Here's a sentence you may need to read a few times before it seems real: Macaulay Culkin is in a Velvet Underground cover band that exists solely to re-word VU/Lou Reed/Nico songs to make them entirely about pizza. For instance, "Stephanie Says" is "Papa John's Says" and "Walk on the Wild Side" is "Take a Bite of the Wild Slice."
Returning to the pizza he loved so dearly in the Home Alone series, Culkin mans the kazoo, handles percussion and sings backup on a nine-minute demo from the Pizza Underground (available for $1, cheaper than most slices!) that covers six Velvet Underground tunes, two solo Lou Reed classics and Nico's "These Days."
Not only is this the best thing Culkin has done since acting in 2004's Saved!, but it's the most ingenious tribute to the recently passed alt-rock forefather yet. One member of the group even plays the pizza box to keep rhythm.
Below are my five favorite pizza puns from Culkin & Co.'s cover band, but you absolutely have to listen to the full thing:
