RZA Releases Tribute Track "Destiny Bends" for "Brother" Paul Walker
Just one day after Fast & Furious mainstay Paul Walker died in the passenger seat of a Porsche involved in a high-speed car crash in Southern California, friend and rap legend RZA turned his grief into art by writing "Destiny Bends," a gentle, beautiful elegy for the fallen star.
In case you're wondering how these two know each other, it seems RZA and Walker became friends while acting alongside each other in the upcoming crime thriller Brick Mansion. "I only knew him personally for less than a year, but we knew each other through our work and art," the Wu-Tang Clan leader wrote on his SoundCloud. "We saw in each other a kindred spirit of men coming from unlikely circumstances, and rising to be the light and beacon of our family and loved ones."
Composed by RZA and sung by his "new friend" Will Wells, "Destiny Bends" opens with a touching dedication from RZA: "I wanna dedicate this song to my friend Paul Walker. I was up in the studio last night writing for myself, and I decided to write a song for you. Peace, brother." As for the song's title, RZA explained, "We had plans to continue working with each other in the future. It seemed destined, but 'destiny bends.'"
Another musician-turned-actor in Walker's life paid tribute to the action star over the weekend. Tyrese Gibson—who worked with Walker on the in-production Fast & Furious 7, which will be finished despite the tragedy—tweeted his shock over the 40-year-old actor's death. "My heart is hurting so bad," Tyrese tweeted. "No one can make me believe this is real."
Listen to "Destiny Bends" above and rewatch Fast & Furious on pretty much any cable channel this week.
