Slipknot Split With Original Drummer Joey Jordison for "Personal Reasons"
After weathering 18 years and the unexpected death of bassist Paul Gray in 2010, Slipknot are parting ways with Joey Jordison, the band's original drummer and co-songwriter.
The reason for the split isn't clear. Slipknot released a 127-word statement on his departure but only specified "personal reasons" as the cause of the lineup change. They added the choice was made with "great pain but quiet respect" to the band's original drummer.
"We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future," Slipknot promise. The Des Moines metal band also confirm they're moving "forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year," which singer Corey Taylor recently said is "really dark" (shocking, right)?
As for Jordison, it seems like his recently-formed thrash metal side project Scar the Martyr is now his main gig. At the very least, he can enjoy breathing more freely sans mask during future live shows.
