BANKS Slays With Spooky New Track "Brain"
As one of Fuse's Breakthrough Artists of 2014, we clearly had high hopes for L.A. singer-songwriter BANKS. But even we were left slack-jawed after taking in her new single "Brain."
Yep, girl just destroyed everything in her wake.
"Brain" marks a departure of sorts for the songstress; while electro-R&B was the closest label one could slap on BANKS, "Brain" is practically unlabelable. Perhaps witch house? Regardless, it's eerie, ethereal and completely delectable.
BANKS' voice is at its nuanced best here. Her faint, raspy alto moves deep and all over the map. When it's overdubbed mid-song, the spook factor comes to a head.
And let's not forget production. L.A.-based electro-wiz Shlohmo built that minimalist, crescendo-ing backdrop with enough sensuality to punch you in the gut. Like his sinfully talented collaborator, he's one to watch. Listen to it above.
